If you're not familiar with the medical profession, it may surprise you to know that there are several different types of nurses. Two of the most common are RNs (or Registered Nurses) and LPNs (or Licensed Practical Nurses). If you're thinking about hiring someone to come help out your aged relatives at their Long Branch real estate, going to the hospital for primary care, or becoming a nurse yourself, you'll need to know the difference between the two. This article will help.
Registered Nurses, or RNs, are at the top of the nurse pecking order. In order to become a Registered Nurse, you have to complete a rigorous four year post secondary university program in nursing and then pass a national licensing board exam before you can get a job and buy some Thornhill, Ontario real estate. Nurses can have specialties just like doctors, some of which include emergency medicine, intensive care, hospice, psychiatric, surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrical. Emergency room nurses are probably the type you're most likely to encounter.
Although each country and sometimes each state or province has its own rules as to what Registered Nurses are allowed to do, generally speaking, nurses are one step below doctors in the medical hierarchy. While most nurses are not allowed to prescribe medications, they can administer medications and treatments, monitor patients, and make determinations about their condition. Registered nurses work in a variety of settings, including in hospitals, clinics, and doctors offices as occasionally in people's Bay St. condos.
Licensed Practical Nurses, on the other hand, are generally not university graduates. They obtain their qualifications from vocational schools, who grant diplomas or certificates for LPN programs that last one to two years. LPNs can also take specialty training in order to get into a higher income bracket and buy a property off the Toronto MLS. In Ontario, LPNs are known as RPNs or Registered Practical Nurses. In some parts of the USA they're called LVNs or Licensed Vocational Nurses, and in Britain and Australia are known as ENs or Enrolled Nurses.
Because their training is not as extensive, LPNs do not have as much responsibility as RNs and cannot perform certain tasks. RNs typically delegate tasks like assisting patients with bathing and using the bathroom, collecting blood and urine samples, and monitoring patients to LPNs. LPNs do sometimes work in hospitals, but they also work in nursing homes and can be hired to work in a private Oakville home for sale.
