Disability Insurance

Life is full of uncertainty. You never know whether something could happen to you. You might put your back out lifting a box of hair removal products onto the shelf, lose an arm in a factory accident, or come down with a terrible wasting disease. In all of these scenarios, the key point is that you would be unable to work any longer. And without work, how would you obtain money to look after yourself and your family? Though disability insurance if you're lucky enough to have it.

You might wonder what the point of disability insurance is when employers are required by law to look after employees if they are injured while doing their jobs as a rhinoplasty surgeon in Toronto. This is true, your employer will have to give you some sort of compensation or pension if you're injured at work, but what if your disability arises from something that happens at home? Or even from something that was hidden deep within your own genes? That's where disability insurance comes in.

In Canada, the government automatically provides you with some disability coverage in the event that you can no longer work. If you were previously employed prior to your accident and have worked 600 hours in the past year, you can get up to 15 weeks of unemployment insurance while you're off work from the Keswick Dental Centre. These are referred to as sickness benefits and they are given with the expectation of recovery. If your illness is bad enough that you can never work again, you can collect Canada Pension on disability if you have contributed to the plan for at least four years.

Although Canadian workers are much more protected than American ones, you can see that there are still many gaps in the government's disability coverage. That's why many Canadian insurance companies such as Sunlife and Manulife have disability insurance plans that will compensate you for your loss of income regardless of how you became disabled. That way you and your family won't suffer once you can no longer work as a dentist in Woodbridge, Ontario. Even if your spouse is still employed, their income may not be enough to keep the family afloat.

Even if you have no dependants to support on your income, disability insurance is still a good idea. Having a source of emergency income means you won't have to throw yourself on the mercy of the government or relatives to look after you, take you to the Toronto naturopath, and hire nurses or physiotherapists. You can even outfit your home to accommodate your new range of abilities, such as building a wheelchair ramp to replace the stairs or installing a TTY phone that you can use even as a deaf person.
